Description	:	Rev. Hosea Washburn of Madison, ME, d. Jan. 19, 1883, aged 86 years. He married Hannah MAXIM, 14 Nov. 1816, Somerset Co. ME. Hosea served in the War of 1812, enlisting Sep. 1814, and discharged No. 1814. He was in John Greenleaf's Co., with Lt. Col Elnathan Sherwins, Reg't, serving at Wiscasset. (source: Mass. Vol 1812, pg 268). It is not known the number of children he and Hannah had, but probably ten or more. Censuses, 1850-60, give Daniel; Martha; John Alden; Leonard H; and names in plot: Justin, d. 1856, 36ys; and Martin H, d. 3yrs in 1824. A dau. Sarah A. (Washburn) McDermid, d. Feb. 1896 in Skobogan, ME; George P. d. Oct 1897, ME. and there may be others. Rev. Washburn was baptized when about thirty years of age, and soon began to preach laboring mostly in Somerset County. In the early years of his ministry, he worked successfully in revivals in many places. His exhortations were accompanied by tears, entreaties and earnest prayers. He founded the church at Pleasant Ridge. He left a large family. ...
