Read More	Jacob Hygema Obit Rev Jacob Hygema, pastor of the United Missionary church here about thirty years ago, died in Clarinda, Iowa where he had lived the past twenty years. Funeral services were hold here Tuesday afternoon in the United Missionary Church with Rev. Quinton Everest of South Bend, Ind., assisted by Rev. Roy Starkey of Shambaugh, lA, two of the older ministers of the conference, officiating. Burial was in Pleasant View Cemetery. Rev. Hygema, son of a Dutch immigrant family, was born in Marshall county, IN. He was left an orphan at the age of five and was placed in three different homes until he was 17. He attended common school and also one term in a Free Will Baptist college at Dutton, Mich. In 1892 he entered the ministry of the United Missionary Church, then known as the Mennonite Brethren in Christ, and was ordained in 1897 by the Nebraska conference of the denomination. After his marriage in 1808 to Miss Esther Stahly of Milford, the couple lived in many communities from here to the west coast, moving on an average of once every nine months. Rev. Hygema preached in many pioneer areas as an lntinerant evangelist. Some of the places included Frontier county and Milford Stuttgart, Ark, Hesston and Harper, Kan, Bellingham and Mountain View, Wash. He was known as a diligent student of the Bible and soon was in demand for special meetings and eventually as a teacher in five different Bible schools. His longest term of service was 10 years at the Fort Wayne Bible Institute. Although the couple never had children of their own, they cared for five different motherless children for short periods of time. In addition, they adopted two girls, one of whom died at the age of three. Surviving are the widow and one daughter, Mrs. Ray P Pannabecker of Goshen, Ind.; five grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Martha Reesor of Wakarusa. Ind.; and two brothers-in-law, Herman and P. F.
