Description	:	In 1847 Johanna Damen Liesveld and her children sailed to America and landed in New York arriving on June 5, 1847. They settled in New York state and lived there for about 7 years. They then relocated to Michigan. The mother, Johanna, sons, Willem and Herman and daughter Henrietta lived in Michigan the rest of their lives. Sons, Derk and Jacob and their families moved west and after living at several locations acquired land in Holland, Lancaster County, Nebraska area. Liesveld was a Presbyterian minister who served at least some of his ministry in Nebraska. (This information was taken from the History of the Presbyterian Church in Nebraska by Rev. Dr. Julius F. Schwartz, 1924, page 128.) Rev. Liesveld did his theological studies under the guidance of a Rev. John Bantley, after which he was licensed for ministry in 1855. He was ordained as a Presbyterian minister by the German Presbyterian Church and served congregations in Wisconsin and Illinois until 1875. Then he served the Presbyterian Church at Malvern, Iowa (1875-1876), and then at Ramsay, Iowa (1876-1881). He was the pastor at the congregation at Hospers, Iowa (1882-1886), and was honorably retired in 1887. He moved to Hickman, Nebraska, where he died in 1903.
