James Frey, Sr. (1793 - 1880) was born in Pennsylvania, the son of Samuel Frey and Rachel Jones Frey. In his lifetime, he lived in the states of Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Iowa. His first wife was Sarah NOFFSINGER (1797 - 1833). They began their married life in Washington County, Pennsylvania. In 1822, James Frey, Sr. (1793 - 1880) and his wife Sarah Noffsinger Frey (1797 - 1833) and their young family migrated from Washington County, Pennsylvania, to Ohio. James Frey, Sr. (1793-1880) was ordained to the work of Baptist ministry by the Beulah Church, in Muskingum County, Ohio, when he was 30 years old. After the early death of his first wife, Sarah Noffsinger Frey in Knox County, Ohio, Rev. James Frey, Sr. was left a widower with young children to raise. He subsequently married his second wife, Ruth HALL, on May 23, 1833, in Knox County, Ohio. Rev. James Frey, Sr. (1793 - 1880) was the father of a total of 17 children. His 8 children by his first marriage were named Daniel, Samuel, Lydia, Jonathan, James, David, Rachel, and Sarah. His 9 children by his second marriage were named Smith, Nancy, Margaret, Dennison, Eliza, Anna, Spencer, Eli, and Enos. Rev. James Frey, Sr. was a Baptist minister and also a farmer in his lifetime. He owned farmland in Ohio and later in Iowa. In 1863, at the age of 70 years of age, Rev. James Frey, Sr. migrated to Iowa, where he continued to farm in Keokuk County, Iowa. He continued in his work as a Baptist minister even into his later years in Keokuk County, Iowa. Rev. James Frey, Sr. (1793 - 1880) was honored posthumously for his years of service as a minister in THE BAPTIST ENCYCLOPEDIA published a year after his death in these words: "He was ordained to the work of the ministry by the Beulah Church, in Muskingum County, Ohio. His field of labor, until 1863, was in central Ohio, doing principally pioneer work and preaching to feeble churches. In 1863, he removed to Iowa, and settled near Sigourney, Iowa, where he spent his declining years, preaching, as opportunity opened, until the close of his life." A white obelisk-shaped tombstone marks the final resting place of Rev. James Frey, Sr. (1793 - 1880). Today, Rev. James Frey, Sr. has hundreds of descendants who live across the entire country.
