He was apparently well yesterday morning and only complained of feeling ill after 1pm yesterday. He was one of the strongest forces for good that this community has ever known. He was dearly beloved by members of his church. But his work and influence were not confined to his own people. It was felt throughout the city, the state, and the South. It radiated through all classes. He was one of the first vice presidents of the Associated Charities. He was a wonderfully good man. He was a wonderfully well balanced man, and by his keen faculty of understanding the viewpoints of others, he was able to reach all classes. Mr. Patton spent many years of his early life as a missionary in Japan and his eloquence has been heard in many pulpits in this country advocating the cause of missions, so dear to his heart. He had been rector of the Church of the Good Shepherd for the past six years. Mr Patton leaves surviving him, his wife and five children, who are now in Wytheville VA due to the ill health of one of his sons. The funeral services will be held from the Church of the Good Shepherd at noon today, Bishop E G Weed officiating. He is an ancestor of General George S. Patton.
