Description	:	from REHWOLDT family history records... "Hermann Rehwoldt, from Lubeck, Germany, sailed from Berlin in about 1864 with his wife Elizabeth (Becker) Rehwoldt. They came down the St. Lawrence River into Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The Rev. Hermann Rehwoldt, representing the Berlin Mission, ministered to Lutherans in that vicinity and later started Lutheran church in Iowa, Wisconsin and in Nebraska. His wife Elizabeth died near Leland, Honey Creek, Sauk, Wisconsin, four months after the birth of their last child, their only son Siegmund Rehwoldt. Rehwoldt. Last Sunday morning the tolling of the bell at St. Paul's church (sic) announced the death of another highly respected citizen, and the intelligence soon spread throughout the surrounding country that Hermann Rehwoldt had gone to join the innumerable throng, and had laid down the burdens of this life after a long and useful career. His death was not wholly unexpected, for, though he had, through all the years, enjoyed robust health, since October he has been confined to his bed and realized that the summons would not be long delayed. On December 26 a stroke of paralysis deprived him of consciousness which he did not regain, and those near to him calmly awaited the end, which came at 7:40 Sunday morning. Hermann Rehwoldt was born March 14, 1837, at Luebeck, Germany. In his younger days he started to learn the nursery business which he followed for four years, but later he went to Neuendettelsau and secured his education for the ministry. He left the old country in June and arrived in New York, July 20, 1860. On September 2, following, he was ordained to the ministry at Sebald, Iowa, by Pres. Grossman. He began his pastoral work in Plattsville, Ia., where he remained three years. At this place married Elizabeth Becker in 1861, and from this union six children were born, only two of whom are now living. From 1863 to '64 he was a minister near Dubuque, Iowa, from '64 to '68 at Montcello, Iowa from '68 to .72 at Germanville Iowa and from '72 to '75 at Honey Creek, Wis., where he lost his first wife. In 1876 he went back to Germany and was married to Minna Ausborn. Upon his return to America he received a call to the pastorate, Hickory Grove, Nebr. In 1881 he came to Thayer county (sic) and organized with six members the St. Peter's congregation northwest of Byron, which church today has almost 70 members. in 1894 he resigned from the ministry and engaged in farming until 1902 since which time he has lived in Byron. The funeral service was held in St. Paul's church (sic) in Byron Tuesday afternoon, where a large number - the largest ever seen at a funeral in the town - listened to an eloquent oration in German by Rev. Schardt, and another in English by Rev. Vetter. Both pastors used the text, Luke 2:29-32, selected by Mr. Rehwoldt for the occasion a few days before he died. After the church service a short service was held at the home, after which a large concourse of friends and relatives accompanied the remains to the St. Paul cemetery (sic), where the body was laid to await the resurrection call.
