Description	:	Son of Joseph Goadby and Frances Mee, both born in Market Bosworth, Leicestershire, England; and both died in England, they started a large dynasty of Baptist clergymen and scholars, only John emigrated to the United States. Husband of: 1) Mary Ann Compton (b. 19 Aug 1809 in Isleham, Cambridegeshire, England; d. 13 Jul 1834 in Cuttack, Orissa, India). She married John Goadby in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire in 1833 where he studied at the Baptist Wisbech Academy. Davis, an American Baptist missionary whom he married on 1 April 1835 in India; Julia died in January 1841 after returning to the United States, she is buried in Milton, near Saratoga, NY 3) Emma Sprague, who he married in May of 1841, died 17 Feb 1862 in Montreal, Canada. I know very little about this lady other than what is recorded here, any additional information would be much appreciated. 4) Sarah Jane Andrus, whom he married (as her second husband) on Jan. 29, 1863 in Poultney, Rutland, VT. Sarah is the daughter of Daniel Andrus and Harriet Watkins. She was first married to William Bosworth 1816-1860 John Goadby was a Baptist missionary in India, from 1833 - 1837. After which he returned to England. He came to the United States later, to take up a Pastorship in Burnt Hills, NY. He moved to Poultney around 1849 where he was the Pastor for ten years. After a four year term in Montreal, he returned to Poultney and became the Pastor once more in 1867 until his resignation in 1872.
