When 11 years of age he came with his mother to the U. S. and located In Wisconsin. He was converted to the Christian religion when 13 years of age and he dedicated his life to God's special service In the ministry. Because of his desire for training he entered North Central college at Naperville, Illinois, where he prepared himself for the ministry. On April 17, 1890, he was united In marriage with Bertha Brehm of Melbourne. He Was licensed to preach in the Iowa conference In 1890 and in this same year entered the active ranks of the ministry. He served in this rapacity for 30 years. Four daughters and one son were born into the Mayne home. The son died in infancy and one daughter Ursula Isebrandes died in 1932. Those who survive Rev. Mayne are, his wife, Mrs. Mayne; three daughters, Laura Lindgren of Rochelle, Ill..; Elizabeth, of Evanston, Wyo.; Emily of Osceola, also a soninlaw, Henry Isebrandes, and eight grandchildren. The past eight years the departed spent at the Old People's home at Cedar Falls, Iowa, where he passed away Wednesday, Aug. 21, 1935, at the ripe age of 78 years, 3 months and 21 days. Rev. Mayne served in various capacities having been elected to various positions of responsibility in his conference as also in the general church, such us president of the conference E. L. C. E. conference secretary, conference treasurer examiner, editor and publisher of the conference journal, trustee, for four years a superintendent, delegate to general conference in 1906 and other offices. Fields of labor which he served were; Defiance, George, Rockwell City, Stanton, Ackley, Alletdnorf. Nerstrand, Ottercreek, Ackley, four years as district superintendant, 1903-1907, Slayton, Sioux Falls, Odessa and Big Stone City. He retired in 1922, moving with his family to Le Mars, where one daughter, Emily, attended Western Union college. The past eight years he made his home at the Western Old People's home at Cedar Falls, Iowa. A memorial service was held in Cedar Falls, Iowa, Thursday, August 22 and burial at Le Mars Saturday at 2 p. m. from the Hildreth church in charge of Rev. R. H. Aurand of Ft. Dodge, Iowa, Bishop L. H. Scager and Rev. S. H. Streyffeler. The pallbearers were Albert Werth, Adrian Bowers, Chas. Danne, Ed Knapp of Le Mars, Geo. Bender and John Snyder of Hinton. Besides his immediate family the following relatives were present: Miss Mina Perau, Rock Rapids; John Brehm, Floyd Brehm, Mr. and Mrs. Norman Minkler, of Pasadena, Calif.; Mr. and Mrs. Will Brehm, Merrill; Ralph Brehm, Hinton; Ray Hamel, Harry Hamel and son Jordan, Sioux City.
