Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, in the sanctuary of Northside United Methodist Church, with Dr. Don Thrasher and Rev. Bill McClarin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. JOHN WELDON PENNEY 1931-2007 JACKSON: Rev. John Weldon Penney, 75, died Sunday, November 4, at his residence after an extended illness. Funeral services are 1 p.m. Wednesday, November 7, in the sanctuary of Northside United Methodist Church, with Dr. Don Thrasher and Rev. Bill McClarin officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in McKenzie. Rev. Penney was born in McKenzie on December 13, 1931 to the late Rex Ray and Nell Aden Penney. He was a United Methodist minister and served in churches in the Memphis Conference of the United Methodist Church, throughout West Tennessee and Western Kentucky, for 44 years. He retired in 1998 and began attending Northside United Methodist Church. He graduated from Bethel College with a Bachelor of Arts and from the Memphis Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Doris Youree. Survivors include: his wife of 53 years, Jean Penney; children, Glenn (Kathy) Penney Jackson, Teresa (Tommie) Redfern of La Center, Kentucky, and Kendall (Andrea) Penney of Arlington; two sisters, Gladys Crocker of McKenzie and Brooxie Barksdale of McKenzie; one brother, Aden Penney of Somerville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the Northside United Methodist Church, 2571 N. Highland Ave. Jackson, TN 38305. The family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, November 6, in the sanctuary of the Northside United Methodist Church from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Arrington Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
