He had never been robust and within the past year had failed steadily. Deceased is a son of Mr. and Mrs George Friedmaun re siding at the west edge of Alton and from boy hood had been exemplary in his habits and of a studious and gentlemanly bearing. He was born at Luxemburg, Iowa on November 7th, 1876 and was therefore a trifle more than thirty three years of age at the time of death. Deceased came to Sioux county with his parents when a child of five years old lived with them near Alton and Granville, he was a student at St. Mary’s school in Alton and later at Mt. Calvery Wisconsin and St. Joseph’s college in Duburque and St. Paul Seminary at St. Paul. He was ordained a priest of the Roman Catholic church April twenty fifth 1905 in Sioux City and celebrated his first mass at Alton the day following. He was assistant for a year to Rev. Father Luehrsmann at Breda and went from there to be Father Kuemper’s assistant at Carroll where he has since remained though he has not been actively engaged for a year past. At the last he knew that his days were numbered and faced death with a noble resignation and a faith that was beautiful to see. He was a true Christian and his calling and the world have lost a noble servant. The body arrived in Alton at midnight Thursday after appropriate serves at Carroll and the funeral is to be held this Saturday morning at St, Mary's church—the body having been instate —in the chapel since its arrival. Bishop Garrigan is expected from Sioux City to preside at the services and preach the English sermon and Father Kuempsr still deliver the funeral sermon over the remains of the lamented young man whom he had learned to know so well and to love for his nobility of soul, Many other priests are expected—though many will be detained on account of inability to get back to their charges by Sunday. Deceased leaves brothers and sisters, all residing about Alton, as follows: Mrs. Fred Odenbrett and Jacob Friedmann and Mrs. John N. Schneider Jr. and at home Lizzie and John and Juliana. The parents and brothers and sisters have the warmest sympathy of the community.
