The Warner Funeral Home of Spencer is in charge of arrangements The Rev. Nattress died Saturday at Spencer Municipal Hospital He was born on a farm in Aurelia on October 18, 1898 and was raised in Dickinson and Clay Counties. Rev. Nattress received his education at Pleasant Prairie Academy, German Valley, Illinois, Hope College, Holland, Michigan and New Brunswick and McCormick Theological Seminaries in New Jersey and Chicago, earning a Master of Theology Degree in 1931 He served churches in Orange City; Schuylerville, New York; San Francisco, Los Angeles, Lakewood and Paramount, California. Rev. Nattress spent six years at Northwestern College in Orange City as college pastor, admissions director and registrar. He served as a chaplain in the Pacific Islands during World War II from 1942 to 1946, receiving the Bronze Stat The Rev. Nattress was a member of the American Legion for 43 years, serving as State Chaplain in Iowa from 1955-56 and in California from 1964-1965. He was also a member of the lions, Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs and published a book in 1976 called America Get Back to God He is preceded in death by his first wife, Irma Strassburger, whom he married in 1931 The Rev. Nattress is survived by his second wife. Gladys Kappelman, whom he married in 1953; one son, LeRoy Jr. of New York City; one daughter and her husband, Judith and John Kloetzel of Baltimore, Maryland ; two brothers, Kenneth of Spencer and Clarence of Milford; two sisters, Marie Deatherage of Clinton and Lucille Cook of Spirit Lake; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren The family request that no flowers be sent.
