Services will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 15, at Covenant Community Church of God, Bismarck, with the Rev. Corey Fifer and Bishop Tony Cooper officiating. Visitation will be held at Lien Funeral Home, Bowdle, S.D., from 9 to 11 a.m. Milbert was born Nov. 13, 1927, in Edmunds County near Bowdle, to Mathilda (Weisenberger) and Emil Haar. He attended grade school in Ipswich, S.D.; completed high school correspondence courses through American School, Chicago, on Oct. 24, 1957; and attended St. Paul Bible Institute, St. Paul, Minn., from 1947 through 1950. Inducted into the Army in March 7, 1946, Milbert served 18 months at Fort Snelling, Minn.; Fort Eustis, Va.; and Fort George G. Meade, Md., where he received an honorable discharge issued by the U.S. Army on Sept. 14, 1947. On Aug. 1, 1950, Milbert married his childhood sweetheart, Geraldine Vaughn Stotz from Tolstoy at Camp Byron Church Camp, Colman, S.D., with the Rev. Ford Hardy officiating at the ceremony. The newlyweds lived on the campus of Northwest Bible College in Minot, where Milbert graduated from Northwest Bible College in 1951. It was during this time that Milbert and Geraldine joined the Church of God. Milbert received his Exhorters Certificate on Aug. 1, 1951, his Licensed Minister's Certificate on July 15, 1953, and his Ordination Certificate on June 23, 1960. Milbert taught at various churches and conducted evangelistic meetings before accepting a pastoral position in Lebanon, S.D., in 1951. Thereafter, Milbert and Geraldine pastored in Winfield, Kan., Parsons, Kan., and Lignite, N.D. In Livingston, Mont., they worked with members of the church to secure a parsonage. They next pastored in Beulah, N.D. In Mosinee, Wis., they worked with members of the church to build a new parsonage in Mosinee and a new church in Rib Mountain, Wis. In Clinton, Ill., the church basement was remodeled and a new furnace and central air installed. After pastoring in Green Rock, Ill., Milbert and Geraldine moved to Bismarck. During this pastoral assignment, they worked with members of the church to eliminate $170,000 debt, leaving the church debt-free at the time of their retirement on March 16, 1992. Milbert is survived by six children, Rachael (Ron) Fandler, Gresham, Wis., Julia Haar, Atlanta, Priscilla Haar, Bismarck, David (Becky) Haar, Atlanta, Tim (Lori) Haar, Bismarck, and Sara (Matt) Mitzel, Bismarck; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Milbert was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine, on Oct. 19, 1996; his father on Aug. 3, 1984; his mother on March 14, 1994; one brother, Ervin; and one sister, Delores Swanson. Casketbearers will be Zachary Haar and Matt Mitzel, both of Bismarck, Ron Fandler, Gresham, Wis., Lyle Huber and Niel Haar, Bowdle, and Evan Haar, Onaka, S.D.
