"Nathaniel Cole the Son of Ephraim Cole and of Ruth his wife was born march the 12:1755 on the first day of the week." Source: Vital Records of Swansea, MA, p. 126. Pastor of the 1st Baptist Church of Plainfield. He was in the Rev. War, but was unable to provide documents to prove that he had served a full six months to get a pension. From his Rev. War Pension Record #R.2138: "He was born March 23, 1755 in Swansey, Massachusetts. He applied for a pension on 12/26/1837 while living in Plainfield, Connectcut. He describes his military service as enlisting in Sept, 1776 while livingin Swansey, Massachusetts. He served two months in Capt. Peleg Peck's company in Colonel Thomas Carpenter's Massachusetts Regiment. He also enlistd in Sept. 1777 and served four months in Capt. Peleg Peck's company in Colonel Carpenter's Massachusetts Regiment. That he was also in Spencer's expedition against Rhode Island. He moved from Swansey, Massachusetts, to Plainfeld, Connecticu, abt. 1792. By 1838, he was referred to as Rev. Nataniel Cole." His request for a Rev. War pension was rejected for lack of documentation. Therefore the R was put in front of his record. "The Plainfield Union Baptist church, located at Moosup, was organized October 16th, 1792, with nineteen members. On November 9th, of the same year, Reverend Nathaniel Cole, of Swansea, Mass., was called to become the pastor. The church soon had a membership of one hundred. Elder Cole labored here forty-one years, retiring from the ministry in 1833, at the age of seventy-seven years." Source: History of the Plainfield Union Baptist Church
