He was born March 12, 1920, in Ages, Ky., the son of John and Martha Cadwick Melzoni. Rev. Melzoni had served as pastor of several churches during his ministry, including Jones Creek Church in Verda, Ky., Poplar Creek Baptist Church in Clinton and First Baptist Church of South Lebanon, Ohio. He was a member of Moran Baptist Church in Clinton. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran of World War II and a recipient of the Naval Cross. In earlier years, Rev. Melzoni had worked as a coal miner in High Splint, Ky. He is survived by his son, Pete Melzoni II and his wife, Sandra, of Wabash, Ind.; two daughters, Phyllis Maples and her husband, Merle, of Wabash, and Brenda Hatton of Clinton; his sister, Mary Iverson and her husband, Ira, of Pompano Beach, Fla.; his brother, the Rev. Bill Melzoni and his wife, Rachel, of Harlan, Ky.; two sisters-in-law, Oza Melzoni of Pennington Gap, Va., and Tressie Melzoni of Dayton, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Rev. Melzoni was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Melzoni; a daughter, Jacqulyn Melzoni; a son, John Melzoni; a great-grandson, Mitch Maples; a son-in-law, David Hatton; and four sisters and three brothers, Louella Smith, Paralee Jackson, Mildred Melzoni, Ethel Kerkendall, Eugene Burress, Lawrence Melzoni and the Rev. Tommy Melzoni Sr. The funeral will be held at 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 10, in the chapel of Holley-Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton with the Rev. Kenneth Seeber, the Rev. Bill Dawson and the Rev. Kenny Sharp officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 11, at Anderson Memorial Gardens, 640 Oliver Springs Highway, Clinton. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The family requests any memorials be in the form of donations to the Melzoni Foundation, c/o Clear Creek Baptist Seminary, Pineville, KY 40977. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home
