Bamford, an aged and long time resident of this county, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Grimes, southwest of Allerton Tuesday night about nine o'clock. Mr. Bamford had been in poor health for some months. Funeral services will be conducted today at Clinton Chapel at ten o'clock, by Rev. W. H. The News reprints from its issue of Sept. 28, last the following in regards to Mr. Bamford: [Centerville Iowegian] If there are any older residents of Iowa than Robt. L Bamford, of Allerton, father of Dr. E. E. Bamford of this city, they are not known to the writer and it is doubtful whether any can be found. The visit of Rev. Morris Bamford of Hastings, Neb., to his brother here this week, and their conversation regarding early day events, brought forth this interesting information. Their father came as a boy of ten with their grandfather to Muscatine in the spring of 1836, settling with Benjamin Nye on a farm in that county, being the very first to lay out farms in that section. After living there 30 years or till 1866, the father of the doctor moved to Washington county, and later was at Lineville as a preacher in the United Brethren church, then decided to locate to Allerton. There he now lives with his daughter, Mrs. Krouch. Another daughter, Mrs. Grimes, lives in Clio. There are five sons in the family, Morris, pastor of the First Methodist church at Hastings, Neb., Ben Bamford of near Des Moines, Dr. S.E. Bamford of Sigourney, Dr. E. E. Bamford of Centerville, and I. D. Bamford of Clio. The family is one that has made its mark in Iowa affairs, the members having achieved success in their various communities. All live in Iowa except Rev. Morris Bamford, and most of his life and work has been in this state, he going in 1899 from Osklaoosa, where he built a handsome new church, to Lawrence, Kans., then to Fort Scott, and from there to Hastings. A residence of 69 years in this state, their father's record is certainly something unique. Next spring will round out the 70 years residence and he will then be 80 years old.
