The funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Biglins Mortuary in O'Neill, with Pastor Doug Holt officiating. Burial will be at the Inman Cemetery in Inman. Tom was born Sept. 3, 1940, to Benjamin and Alice (Myer) Cunningham. Tom spent his childhood in the Inman/O'Neill area. He graduated from Inman High School in 1959. While in high school he met the love of his life. He married Dianne Dale Snyder July 17, 1960. They had four children, Thomas, Ruth, Stacey, and Reeve. During the early years of their marriage, Tom worked construction and eventually became a cheesemaker. He worked in various creameries and in 1979 was the head cheesemaker at the Newman Grove Creamery, in Newman Grove. He loved horses and when he was young he studied to be a Farrier and broke horses for many years. Going on trail rides and being on a horse was one of his most enjoyable hobbies when he was a young man. Other interests were camping, fishing and playing board games with his kids. In his later years he enjoyed making cheese with his home kit, trying perfect each batch better than the last. In 1977, he gave his life to Jesus Christ and found the greatest passion in his life. From that moment on he pursued God's will for his life, preaching the Gospel. On many occasions he stated that he found preaching to be what compelled him. He wanted everyone to know love of His Savior the same way he did. He studied for the ministry and preached as an evangelist in several churches across Nebraska. He served as the assistant pastor a the Church of the Nazarene in Albion. When they moved to Columbus, he became an ordained pastor with the Church of God. When he "retired" he did various part-time jobs doing custodial work at the Columbus Police Department and two businesses owned by his son, Reeve. Tom just couldn't stay retired from ministry and at the time of his death he served as the assistant pastor of the Discover Hope Foursquare Church in Columbus. He is survived by his wife, Dianne, of Columbus; children, Ruth and husband, Doug Heule, of Columbus, Reeve and his wife, Sara, of Platte Center, Stacey Cunningham, of Columbus; grandchildren, Alisha and husband, Jake Shuettler, Autumn and husband, Jarod Cole, Jerica and husband, Kyle Christensen, Samantha McBride, Michaela McBride, Thom McBride, Sara McBride, Elisabeth Cunningham, Emily Cunningham, and Benjamin Cunningham; great-grandsons, Ronan Cole, and Boston Shuettler; brother, Terry; and sisters, Patti Banks, Eva Cornstock, and Sharon Caswell. He was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Alice; two sisters, Iris Carpenter and Lucy Couch; and his son, Tommy.
