Description	:	Thomas Henry Harrison "Harrison" Presson was the son of Samuel Presson and Ann Presson. He married Elizabeth Liles in Carroll CO, TN on Dec. 15, 1861. Thomas served the Union as a Private, in Companies B & A, 7th Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in Carroll Co, TN on 8/20/1862 and mustered at Humboldt, TN on the same day, at the age of 21. Read More	Thomas Henry Harrison "Harrison" Presson was the son of Samuel Presson and Ann Presson. He married Elizabeth Liles in Carroll CO, TN on Dec. 15, 1861. Thomas served the Union as a Private, in Companies B & A, 7th Tennessee Cavalry. Enlisted in Carroll Co, TN on 8/20/1862 and mustered at Humboldt, TN on the same day, at the age of 21. He was 5’11" tall, had a fair complexion, blue eyes, light hair. Thomas was a farmer, born in Benton Co, TN but his family was in Williamson CO, Illinois, temporarily. He furnished his own horse and equipment, and he received a $100 bounty for his enlistment. Captured and paroled with the regiment at the battle of Trenton, TN on 12/20/1862, he most likely spent time in parole camp at Camp Chase in Columbus, OH along with Colonel Hawkins and others of the regiment awaiting exchange. The men were exchanged from June through September, 1863. Captured with the regiment at Union City, TN on 3/24/64, Presson was a prisoner in Andersonville Prison in Georgia. Paroled & Exchanged through Savannah, GA on Nov 19, 1864, he was taken to the hospital in Annapolis, MD then sent on to Jeffersonville, IN, where he was said to have scrobutus. His hospital contact was his wife, Elizabeth Liles Presson, who was living in Jackson Co, IL. Presson was discharged at Jeffersonville, IN on 6/19/65 and returned to Benton Co, TN, where he became a minister. He applied for an invalid pension and was listed as a recipient of $6 per month in the 1883 pensioners list (date of original allowance: January 1875.) Thomas Henry Harrison Presson died on 3/9/1916 in Camden, TN and is buried in the Prospect Cemetery northwest of Camden in Benton Co, TN. (Source: Holley, Peggy Scott. Hawkins' Tories, A Regimental and Social History of the 7th Tennessee Cavalry USA in the Civil War, BrayBree Publishing, Dickson TN, 230 p, 2014.) --------------------------------------------------- History in possession of descendants states that Thomas Henry Harrison Presson watched his comrades become ill, and many died from thirst and disease, while they were imprisoned at Andersonville during the Civil War. There was no source of clean water in the prison camp. Thomas and the other soldiers prayed for relief, and a natural spring "appeared" during a thunderstorm. They believed the appearance of this spring to be the answer to their prayers, and that this was what enabled them to survive the prison camp. Thomas was a minister of the Methodist Epsicopal Church. According to family records, Thomas became a minister after having served in the Civil War.
