Uriah Patton was born in Montgomery County Ohio, Aug. 1,1823, and is the son of the ten children born to Thomas and Mary {Horine} Patton, natives of Maryland and born respectively Jan 17,1789 and March 4 1791. The parents settled in Montgomery county in 1816, and then moved to Carroll County Indiana, in 1835, the father died 1855 age 66 and the mother in 1838 age 47. Uriah patton was reared and is a farmer in Carroll County and there attended the pioneer scholl at intervals until age 21, when he entered 120 acreas of his present farm in this township. He was married January 23 1847 to Miss Susan daughter of John and Catherine (Hannawalt) Nearhoofand born in Huntingdon County Pennsylvania, September 25,1825. To this union were born 9 children, six now living-Isaac, Jerusha, Lovina,Perry ,Levi, Margaret. Those deceased are William died age 23, Monroe 13months,and an infant unnamed. Mr. Patton is the owner of 280 acreasuner a good state of cultivation. He lost his dwelling by fire April 18,1880, and moved into his present house , which cost him $1,200.00. Mr and Mrs Patton joined the church of God in 1850 and in the spring of 1855 Mr .Patton was chosen a minister and has since been preaching regularly the first few years riding a circuit of 50miles and has never received a dollar for his services .
