Description	:	Rev. Verlin Phillips, age 72 of Briceville died Jan. 27, 2004 at the Methodist Medical Center of Oak Ridge. He was born Jan. 20, 1932. He was a member of Laurel Grove Baptist Church since August 31, 1947. He was pastor of Community Baptist Church. He loved to coon hunt, fish, but most of all he loved to serve the Lord and preach the Gospel which he had done since July, 1957. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Jean Vandergriff Phillips, daughters, Nettie Braden and husband, Richard, Briceville, Wanda Carroll and husband, Johnny, Briceville and Betty Phillips Seiber, Briceville; sons, Ray Phillips and wife, Mary, Briceville, Roger Phillips and wife, Ruby, Briceville, Tommy Phillips and LeAnn, Briceville; grandchildren, Deena Coffman, Joshua Seiber, Jonathan and Betha Carroll, Scott, Amanda, Rachel, Verlin Lee, Jessica, Emily, Kimberly, Colton, Reid and Ashlynn Phillips, all of Briceville; sister, Etta Patterson, Harriman; brothers, Virgil Phillips and wife, Alice of Briceville, Walter Phillips and wife, Norma of Lake City; several nieces nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were Jan. 30 at the Laurel Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Rick Howard and Rev. Steve Seiber officiating. Interment was in the Laurel Grove Cemetery. Verlin and Jean Vandergriff Phillips of Briceville will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, July 24, in the fellowship hall of Laurel Grove Baptist Church. The couple was married July 30, 1949, by the Rev. Henry Duncan, now deceased.Their children are Nettie Braden and her husband, Richard, Ray Phillips and his wife, Mary, Betty Seiber, Roger Phillips and his wife, Ruby, Wanda Carroll and her husband, Johnny, and Tommy Phillips and his wife, LeAnn, all of Briceville Highway. They also have 13 grandchildren. All friends and relatives of the couple are invited to help them celebrate this special occasion
