Walter Kranzler, son of Gottlieb G. and Katherine (Dockter) Kranzler, was born June 27, 1913, near Hosmer, South Dakota. Following his high school graduation, he attended Yankton College. This is where he earned his bachelors and masters degree in theology. He was ordained and served the Trinity Congregation Church at Jefferson Park, Illionis, near Chicago, until 1941, when he was called to serve the Gackle Parish at Gackle, North Dakota. At this time, he also began teaching advanced English and general science classes, as well as directing the high school band at Gackle High School. His love for music prompted him to organize Men's Quartet's and Men Chorus groups in the churches he served. He was united in marriage to Marion Baustad in 1942. During World War II, he went into the lumber business for five years. In 1953, he was called to serve St. John's Congregational Church at Wishek, North Dakota. During his ministry in Wishek, he was active in the development of the retirement home, serving as executive director until its completion. In 1962, he accepted a call to Loveland United Church of Christ at Loveland, Colorado, where he served for ten and one half years. During this ministry, he also acted as the Association Conference Minister of the Colorado Conference. In 1971, he was called to serve St. Paul's United Church of Christ in Eureka, which he served until his retirement in 1979. Reverend Kranzler was extremely active in the Eureka community. During his time in Eureka, he was instrumental in designing and developing the Eureka Pioneer Museum, and served as curator for eight years. His wife Marion died on August 14, 1980. He was united in marriage to Marleen Schilling Shipley in 1984. Marleen died on February 20, 1992. Survivors include one son, Jerome (Niki) Kranzler of Denver, Colorado; one daughter, Colleen (John) Kunz of Great Falls, Montana; one sister, Ramona Pfieff of Lodi, California; one granddaughter, Stacie; one great grandson, Jessie; and one great granddaughter, Paige. His parents, both wives, two brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Carlsen Funeral Home, Eureka.
