Johnson Nov. 27, 1921-Sept. 17, 2010 Pastor Wayne R. JOHNSON, 88, died at 5:20 p.m. Friday at Grace Village Health Care Facility, Winona Lake. Wayne was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Wabash County, to Homer F. and Golda M. (Nichols) Johnson. He married Mary K. Ahlfeld on Aug. 29, 1941, in North Manchester. He was a lifetime resident of Kosciusko County. Wayne served in the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged Nov. 25, 1943, in Great Lakes, Ill. Wayne was an ordained minister in the Evangelical United Brethren and United Methodist churches, retiring in 1986. He served as pastor at Burkett, Claypool, Athens and Beaver Dam United Methodist churches, and he served as an evangelist with the Evangelical United Brethren Church. Wayne was a 1940 graduate of Chester High School. He received higher education from Manchester College and from United Theological Seminary, Indianapolis; he was a past member of the Claypool Lions Club, former Clay Township trustee and former member and president of the Kosciusko County Community Hospital board of directors; and he was an accomplished cabinetmaker and avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Mary Johnson, Winona Lake; two sons, Jerry (Lois) Johnson, Claypool, and Stephen Johnson, Fort Wayne; two daughters, Janet D. (Charles) Lentz, Mount Pleasant, N.C., and Barbara (Michael) Wolfe, Mesa, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer F. and Golda M. Johnson, and two brothers, Lewis E. Johnson and Robert L. Johnson. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Claypool United Methodist Church, Claypool. Pastor Evelyn Taylor Haney of the church will officiate. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday at the church. Burial will be in Oaklawn Cemetery, North Manchester. Memorials may be made to Claypool United Methodist Church, 320 E. Section St., Claypool, IN 46510.
