Description	:	Rev. William was born July 7, 1796 in Cumberland County, Penn. He was of German decent, and his grandfather was a follower of William Otterbein (the founder of the United Brethren Church) at Tulpehockin. His father, Peter, moved to Cumberland Co. and their family was a very religious family. He received the Lord as his Savior at age 16, at a big meeting in the home of Abraham Mayor. William was born July 7, 1796 in Cumberland County, Penn. He was of German decent, and his grandfather was a follower of William Otterbein (the founder of the United Brethren Church) at Tulpehockin. His father, Peter, moved to Cumberland Co. and their family was a very religious family. He received the Lord as his Savior at age 16, at a big meeting in the home of Abraham Mayor. At age 20 he experienced a call to serve the Lord. He joined the East Conference in 1816. He was ordained by Bishop Newcomer in 1819. He served the church of the United Brethren in Christ for 52 years, starting in 1816. He served the Hagerstown Circuit, 1817; Virginia Circuit 1818-1819; 1820 Hagerstown, again; 1823 York Circuit and was presiding elder. In 1825 he went to the Baltimore Church, 1828-1832, he was presiding elder and served in the Wabash Conference in 1838. He was elected Bishop in 1833 and served until 1837. He could preach in both English and German. He married Sara Koch in 1819, and they had 2 children. He passed away May 11, 1868. Bio update by Theron & Helen Smith
