Description	:	Rex E. Strait, 91, of rural Keosauqua, passed away Jan. 7, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born July 1, 1918, in the Pittsburg community west of Keosauqua to Garfield and Willa Kerr Strait. He married Eleanor Beatty March 15, 1941, at her parents' home in Keosauqua. Strait, 91, of rural Keosauqua, passed away Jan. 7, 2010, at Van Buren County Hospital, Keosauqua. He was born July 1, 1918, in the Pittsburg community west of Keosauqua to Garfield and Willa Kerr Strait. He married Eleanor Beatty March 15, 1941, at her parents' home in Keosauqua. Rex graduated from Keosauqua High School as valedictorian of the class of 1936. He sang in a boys quartet and was active in 4-H and spent his life farming in the neighborhood where he was born. He was an active member of Keosauqua United Methodist Church, served in many church offices and sang in the choir. He sang for many years in the Wapello Chief's Barbershop Chorus, Ottumwa and the Four Bottom Plow Quartet in Van Buren County. He was a past president of Van Buren County Farm Bureau, past president and longtime secretary of Van Buren County Fair Board, was a longtime 4-H leader and had been a director of Southern Iowa Rural Electric Coop Board, Bloomfield and had served on the Keosauqua School Board. He was also past president of Keosauqua Lions Club and with his wife was honored as Keosauqua Citizen of the Year, had been recognized as Outstanding Pork Producer of the year and as a leader in soil conservation, following the tradition of his father who built the first terrace in the state of Iowa. Surviving are his wife; two sons, Darrell Strait (Susan) of Bolivar, Mo., and Marvin Strait (Doris) of Keosauqua; a daughter, Lynnette Dunn of Glenwood; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents; two sisters, Beryl Sherod and Jeannette Taylor.Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Keosauqua United Methodist Church; Rev. Elsa Lawry and Rev. ellis andrews officiating. Burial will be at Pittsburg Cemetery. Visitation will open at 3 p.m. Sunday at Pedrick Funeral Home in Keosauqua with family present 4-5 p.m. Memorials to Keosauqua United Methodist Church or Pittsburg Cemetery may be left at the funeral home or church or mailed to the family at 17937 185th Road, Keosauqua, Iowa 52565.
