Description	:	Rex K. Lentfer, 83, of Haxtun, passed away Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, in Sterling. Closed casket funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 13, at the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church in Sidney, Neb., with Pastor Philip Found officiating. Burial will follow at the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Rex was born on Aug. 26, 1926, in Lincoln, Neb., to August and Lizzie Lentfer. Burial will follow at the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Rex was born on Aug. 26, 1926, in Lincoln, Neb., to August and Lizzie Lentfer. He grew up in the rural Lodgepole, Neb., area, attending the Cheyenne County School District No. 72, where he rode his horse to school and graduated from the eighth grade in 1941. After graduating, Rex resided in the Lodgepole area and worked for farmers in the area. He married Kathleen E. Michaels in Peetz on Oct. 14, 1951, and they moved to the Crook community, where they farmed until 2003. He was also a ditch rider from 1964 to 1989 for the Lateral 46 Ditch Company of Crook. They retired to Haxtun in September of 2003. He was a member of the Crook Lutheran Church and the South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed reading and visiting with friends. Rex is survived by daughter, Elaine Lentfer of Denver; brother-in-law, Marlin Michaels and wife Cynthia of Sidney; niece, Kristy Schumacher and husband Gary of Peetz; nephew, Kevin Michaels and wife Peggy of Peetz; niece, Kareen Cox of Lorenzo; 16 great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Kathleen, on May 13, 2009. Memorials may be made to the Crook Rescue Unit/Fire Department, Haxtun Volunteer Fire Department or South Divide Trinity Lutheran Church, in care of Tennant Funeral Home, P.O. Box 1547, Sterling, CO 80751.
