He was born May 24, 1922, at Hedrick, the son of Clifford McKinney Bever and Gladys Barcus Bever. On June 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Anna Halliburton; she died July 8, 1976. He was born May 24, 1922, at Hedrick, the son of Clifford McKinney Bever and Gladys Barcus Bever. On June 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Anna Halliburton; she died July 8, 1976. On July 3, 1986, he was united in marriage to Lenora Wood at Knoxville; she died March 16, 2007. He graduated from Fremont High School with the class of 1940. He served in the Calvary Division of the United States Army during World War II. Following his discharge, Rex and Ann returned to the Fremont area and purchased a farm close to his parents, where he farmed until 1980. Upon leaving the farm he became employed by the A.E.A. in Ottumwa. He retired from there in 1987. During the 1980s he also served as mayor of Fremont. Rex enjoyed showing and riding horses, fishing and boating. In later years, he enjoyed watching old western movies and watching and cheering on the Texas Rangers baseball team. He was a member of the Fremont United Methodist Church and the Fremont Saddle Club. He was also a Mason and served several years on the Mahaska County Sherriff Posse. His family includes a son, Ron Bever of New Sharon; a daughter and her husband, Roe Ann and Russ Logan of Winnsboro, Texas; two stepdaughters, Marsha(Roger)Lynch and Nina Shrago, all of Oskaloosa; three grandchildren, J.W.Bever, Heather(Jerad)Barnes and Daniel Logan; five great-grandchildren, Matthew, McKayla, Mason, Maddux and Merritt; three stepgrandchildren, Sherri Van Engelenhoven, Shera(Nathan)Shrago-Westercamp and Jordan Shrago; one sister, Patty(Floyd)Berry of Fremont; and one nephew, Terry Berry of Ozark, MO. In addition to both of his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; and a stepson-in-law, Steve Shrago; and stepgranddaughter, Arianne Dawn Shrago. Funeral services will be 10 am Monday in the Fremont United Methodist Church in Fremont; with Rev. Remigio Paniaqui officiating. Burial will be in the Abel Cemetery near Fremont. Graveside military rites will be given by members of the Oskaloosa American Legion and VFW. Visitation will begin after 11 am Sunday in the Bates Funeral Chapel, and the family will be at the funeral chapel from 2-4 pm Sunday afternoon to greet friends and relatives.
