Reynold Fishwild was born in St Louis, MO, April 24, 1858 and died at his home in Wyoming, May 2, 1932. At an early age Mr. Fishwild's parents moved to Rock Island, Ill. where his early boyhood days were spent. At the age of twelve he entered what might be termed "The University of Hard Knocks". This valuable schooling he obtained by his entering a grocery store, as an errand boy and general helper at that early age. He was ever willing, eager and alert, glad and proud that he could add to the family income. He soon won recognition for his promptness and honesty and his willingness to be ever on the job. Later circumstances took him to Preemption, Ill. where he was associated with the mercantile business. A.M. Loomis a merchant in Wyoming, was in search of a keen young man who could relieve him of accumulating responsibilities. To him was unqualified, recommended this young man from Preemption. In addition to his excellent ability in a store he had an education in German an spoke the language with fluency. A great asset with so many German immigrants moving into this new country. He came to Wyoming early in 1881. In the autumn of that year, October 1881 he was united in marriage with Miss Tabitha Evens of Preemption. The fiftieth Anniversary of this event, "The Golden Wedding Day" was celebrated by an unbroken family circle, October 26, 1931. The young couple immediately established their home in Wyoming and made themselves a very vital part of the community. To this union were born six children: Etta, Mrs. W.W. Fordham of Colville, Washington; Henry, many years the Junior partner in the mercantile business; Ida, Mrs. A.S. Nickless of Detroit, Michigan; George, farmer of this vicinity; Leslie, member of the faculty, Clinton, Iowa, High School; Allison, mining engineer, at present operating one of the Fishwild farms. Also fifteen grandchildren. The funeral services were conducted from the Presbyterian Church, Wednesday, May 4th at 2 p.m. "Abide with me" and "Peace Perfect Peace" Hymns that were great favorites of the deceased were sung by a quartette of mixed voices. Rev. DeBest of Hopkinton, a former pastor gave a beautiful and helpful prayer, following which the present pastor Rev. Nicholas gave a splendid and most fitting discourse taking as his text Math. 25:21 "Well done good and faithful servant". Special stress was made in this upon the influence of Mr. Fishwild's life upon the community, in the church, and in the home. His remarks were brought to a close with the thought that they who are good servants in this world will eventually become rulers in the world to come. The church was crowded with friends from the surrounding neighborhood and towns. The floral tributes were many and beautiful. Mute testimonies of a legion of friends. The pallbearers, Hugh Campbell, James Inglis, John Inglis, and Henry Griswold, were elders in the Presbyterian church and A.W. Peck and W.O. Shaffer employees in the store. Among the relatives from out of town attending the funeral were Mrs. A.S. Nickless of Detroit, Leslie Fishwild and family of Clinton; Max Fishwild, a brother and his wife and their daughter and son-in-law, Mr and Mrs Strandgard of Detroit.
