She was married to William Maitlen in 1853, and moved to South English, Iowa. To this union five children were born: Renzo Maitlen 1899, deceased; Rick Maitlen, living in Valley, New Mexico; and Clay Maitlen of Texas, none of whom could reach here; and Martha K. Goddard of Creston, Iowa, and Mrs. Amandy Bulleigh of Miltonvale, Kans. Mr. Maitlen died February 23, 1870. She was married to Jesse McDowell in Iowa in June 1871. They moved to Miltonvale in 1878 and from there to Burlington in 1890. There were three children: Effie McKinley of Miltonvale, Kansas; Jesse McDowell, of Burlington, Kans; and Annie Frasier, who died in 1902. Besides her children, she leaves one sister in Indiana, and 40 living grand-children, and 2 step-daughters, Mrs. Ralph Gowth of Miltonvale, Kans, and Mrs. Joe Rainey of Oak Hill, Kansas. Since the death of her last husband, she has been living with her two children, Mrs. Effie McKinley and Jesse McDowell. She had been in Burlington with her son about a year until September 6th, when she returned to Miltonvale, to make her home with her daughter. She had a sick spell Christmas week and since then has gradually failed. On Friday, she was taken seriously ill with pneumonia and died Sunday morning at 4 o'clock. On account of poor health, her daughters Mrs. McKinley and Mrs. Bulleigh were unable to come to Burlington. The funeral was held at the M. B. Church in Miltonvale, Kansas, and the body was shipped to Burlington. Published in the Weekly Republican Burlington, Coffey Co, Kansas, Monday, March 2, 1914.
