From From Homesteads to Cellar Holes - Catamount Hill - Colrain, Mass, found on Rootsweb: Little is known of the ancestry of Abraham Bass. An old family tradition is that his father was a wealthy Englishman. Abraham was a soldier in the French and Indian War and received as a bounty 160 Acres of land, part of which was on Catamount Hill and some of it in Charlemont. The record of his death (14 Jan. 1807, aged 93) and that of his wife, Rhoda (14 Jun 1825, aged 91) is from an old family Bible. Twelve children were born to them, one of whom was Rhoda (Bass) Shippee who furnished the white cloth which was used in making the schoolhouse flag in 1812. The loom on which the cloth was woven is now in Memorial Hall at Deerfield, Mass. It is known that Amasa Shippee, Rhoda's husband, furnished the flag pole. (NOTE: If Abraham and Rhoda were as old when they died as they are listed, a birth of a daughter in 1786 would have been unlikely. Yet there is a marriage record in Greenfield,MA on Jan 28,1766 of Abraham Bass of East Hoosic,NY and Rhoda Mitchell. Could the Alexander named in her death record be the same as, or related to, Abraham?)
