Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. Rhoda E. Paap, 84 years of age, of Beatrice, NE. passed away at the Beatrice Community Hospital in Beatrice, NE. Saturday night, December 27, 2003. She was born on April 1, 1919 near Murdock, NE. and has lived in Beatrice, NE. since 1945. She and Emory Paap were married on June 13, 1942 in Long Beach, California. She taught school for 17 years, 10 years at the Beatrice High School in Beatrice, NE. She was a member of the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, was a member and past president of the United Methodist Women, and was a past Sunday School teacher for over 20 years. She was a member of the Beatrice Civic Garden Club and the Arts and Crafts Club. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and traveling. Survivors include her husband Emory; son Randy Paap and his wife Virginia of Honey Creek, Iowa; 3 daughters, Carolyn Kirtley and her husband Al of Clay Center, Kansas, Virginia Swanson and her husband Dennis of Glenwood, Iowa, and Margaret Huffman and her husband Jim of Boulder, Colorado; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; 2 sisters Ruth Quam and her husband Norris of Manchester, Washington and Hazel Arthur and her husband Lloyd of Aurora, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents Alwin and Marie (Schewe) Neitzel; daughter Katherine Lowe; and a brother Grant Neitzel. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 29, 2003 at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Beatrice, NE. with Reverends Kelly and Cindy Karges officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 P.M. Monday at the Union Cemetery, R. Otoe, NE. The body will lie in state Sunday from 4-9:00 P.M. at the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice, NE. and at the church one hour preceding the service on Monday. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 A.M. Monday at the church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the church with the Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in charge. Messages of condolence may be sent to [email protected] They will be forwarded to the family. The Griffiths-Hovendick Chapel in Beatrice is in charge of the services.
