Description	:	WALNUT COVE, NC ~ Estelle Neal Smith died Saturday, May 18, 2002, after a prolonged illness. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 2002, at Westfield Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at Burroughs Funeral Home. Estelle was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Thomas Smith. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Monday evening at Burroughs Funeral Home. Estelle was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, James Thomas Smith. Tom and Estelle are survived by three daughters, Betty Clark of Stuart, Va., Candace George of Greensboro, and Melissa Smith of Leawood, Kan.; three sons-in-law, Lyle Clark, Jim George and Robert Smith; and five grandchildren, Eddie, Susan, Perry, Rachel and Joseph. She is also survived by her sisters, Mary Brinkley of Winston-Salem, Annie Eastman of Winston-Salem, and Ailene Hicks of King. She graduated from Appalachian State Teachers College and enjoyed teaching hundreds of Stokes County children until her retirement. She inherited a strong Christian faith from her parents and was an active member of First Baptist Church in Walnut Cove. Estelle enjoyed travel, reading, old movies, golf, crafts and was never known to turn down an offer to play cards. The family expresses its thanks for the support of the community, friends and other family members shown to Estelle, especially in the years following Tom's death. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Stokes County or the charity of their choice. Estelle is well-loved and her company and sense of humor will be missed.
