Smith, who was buried last Friday, was born in Ohio in 1828. Her ancestors had lived in this country many years prior to the Revolutionary period. She was married to John H. Smith April 12, 1849, in Indiana. They moved to Iowa in 1854. Her husband died Jan. 4, 1871, and she came to Colville in 1906 with her daughter and son in law Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Dodson. She leaves five children, Mrs. J. P. Dodson, Colville; Edmund Smith, Seattle; Samuel Smith, Colville; Mrs. F.M Kenoyer, Fullerton, Nebr.; Mrs. C.J. McCay, Medford, Ore. Also 16 grandchildren. She lived an active Christian life since she was 15 years of age. She lived through the most wonderful age in al history. Most of the present day necessities were unknown during the early years of her life. Ohio, where she was born, was at that time the western frontier. She saw the settlement and development of all the states. But more important that these material things was the beautiful life she lived, the memory of which is a splendid heritage for her descendants and to the multitude of friends. The funeral was held at the Christian church where the Rev. Fred A. Thomas had charge, assisted by the choir. Messrs. Sax, Hagen, Denny, Ham, Bell and Thode, who were old family friends, acted as pallbearers. Five of the 16 grandchildren and four of the 14 great grandchildren were present. The many beautiful flowers spoke of the love of dear friends. Among those from out of the city who came to attend the funeral were A.E. Dodson, grandson, and wife of Spokane; J.E. Dodson , grandson, of Pasco; J.L. Dodson, grandson, and wife and son of Chewelah; Edmund Smith, son, of Seattle; Mrs. W.L. Hagen, granddaughter of Spokane. The Colville examiner.
