Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 4, 2011 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline, SD with Pastor Ann E.S. Webb officiating. Linda Mennenga will be the organist with Carrie Kindopp as soloist. Visitation will be from 4-8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 3, 2011 at Wight, Comes & Sogn Funeral Chapel in Watertown. Interment will be at a later date. Pallbearers will be Patrick Schuster, Dain Jorgenson, Scott Johnston, Steve Jensen, Jeff Planteen and Chris Bauer. Rhodine Ellen Jenson was born November 13, 1940 in Toronto, South Dakota. It was during a horrible blizzard and she was born in her grandmother’s house to Oscar and Violet (Larson) Mundahl. The family moved several times and she attended six different elementary schools, one junior high school and one high school. After graduating in 1958 from Clear Lake High School, she worked at the State Capitol in St. Paul, Minnesota to earn enough money to go to college. She enrolled at DSU (then General Beadle Teachers College) and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught in a rural school at the tender age of 19 with 18 students in all eight grades. In 1962 she married Merle Bierscheid and the couple lived in Redfield, Aberdeen and Watertown. To that union two daughters were born. While in Aberdeen she was a room-mother, PTA president, PTA secretary for the city-wide PTA. She was instrumental in the planning and construction of the first innovative playground at May Overby Elementary School. The couple moved to Watertown in 1976. Rhodine was the sole caregiver for her mother and father. In 1991 she married Jeffrey Jenson and moved to Lake Poinsett where they lived for 20 years before moving back to Watertown in 2010. While living on the lake she loved boating and fishing and throwing 4th of July parties for her grandkids, kids, and all their friends. Rhodine worked in offices at JC Penney Co., Oak Valley Farms, Wenk Foods, and Brookings Municipal Utilities until poor health and the move caused her to retire. In addition to her PTA work, she was on the Board Of Education, Ushering Committee, Sunday School Teacher, and a Stephen Minister at Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline, SD where she also worked part-time as a secretary. Her pastimes included bowling, crocheting, sewing, tole painting, refinishing furniture, and spending time with her grandchildren, which was her favorite thing to do. Rhodine is survived by her husband, Jeff of Watertown, SD; two daughters, Kami (Steve) Jensen, Brookings, SD and Kari (Scott) Johnston, Watertown, SD; three children gained through marriage: Christina (Jeff) Planteen, Watertown, SD, Sarah (Chris) Bauer, St. Louis Park, MN, Michael Jenson, Dallas, TX; 8 grandchildren, Patrick Schuster and Mei Li Planteen, Watertown, SD, Parker, Peyton and Addison Johnston, Watertown, SD and Adam, Anna and Ben Bauer, St. Louis Park, MN; two brothers, Larron (Joan) Mundahl, St Paul, MN and David (Barb) Mundahl, Minnetonka MN; one sister, Victoria (David) Jorgenson, Sioux Falls SD; two sisters-in-law, Nancy (Rich) Rogers and Deb (Gary) Ernst all of Watertown; two brothers-in-law, Dan (Julie) Jenson, Watertown, SD and Jim (Jane) Jenson, Wyndmere, ND; plus a host of nieces and nephews.
