"Dick" Stalnaker, age 95, of 198 Frank Hill Loop Ext., Union, widower of Rosinelle Bobo "Tootsie" Stalnaker, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Union Medical Center. "Dick" Stalnaker, age 95, of 198 Frank Hill Loop Ext., Union, widower of Rosinelle Bobo "Tootsie" Stalnaker, passed away Saturday, January 22, 2022 at Union Medical Center. Mr. Stalnaker was born December 29, 1926 in Atlanta, a son of the late Alexander Stalnaker and Josie Whitman Stalnaker. He was a graduate of Lockhart High School and retired from BellSouth. He was a Veteran of the United States Navy having served during World War II. Mr. Stalnaker was a member of Mon Aetna Baptist Church where was the last original member of the "Sunshine Class" now the Bill Goodwin Sunday School Class. He was a member of Union Masonic Lodge No. 75 and was the oldest Worshipful Master in South Carolina and possibly the United States. He was member of the Scottish Rites, York Rites, and the Knights Templer. Surviving are a daughter, Betsy Hobbs and husband Phil of Toccoa, GA; a son, Mike Stalnaker and wife Angie of Union; three grandchildren, Ashley Stalnaker Blackwell and husband Steven, Richard Ross Hobbs, and Benjamin Michael Hobbs; and two great-granddaughters, Harper Grace Blackwell and Hattie Mae Blackwell. He was predeceased by a sister, and three brothers. A celebration of life service will be held at 1 :00 PM Saturday, January 29, 2022 at Mon Aetna Baptist Church conducted by the Rev. Benny Green. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow at Union Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to Union Masonic Lodge No. 75, 805 S. RW Roger Gregory wrote these words about our friend Dick Stalnaker on the day of his passing January 22, 2022 It is with deep sorrow that I announce the passing of WB Richard A. "Dick" Stalnaker. Dick was Union Lodge 75's Senior WM having served as South Carolina's oldest WM for the years 2019, 2020, and 2021. Even at age 93, 94, and 95, WB Dick agreed to serve for three years due to a death we had in the elected line and of course Covid in 2020. Dick was loyal to his Lodge and Masonry. He never missed a Regular or Special the three years he served including Masonic Rites We did for our Lodge and other Lodges. Anytime I would tell him I was going somewhere to confer a Lecture or whatever, he would say I'll go with you. Very few if any Degrees held at other Lodges in Union County did he miss and most he took part in. He was my traveling companion and I will forever remember him and miss him a lot. Dick was an active member of the Union York Rite Bodies and served on the Degree team. He had just been elected to serve as Sovereign Master of Piedmont Council # 440 Allied Masonic Degrees for 2022 having gone through all the chairs. Dick was also a Scottish Rite Mason with the Charleston Valley, but attended the meetings each month with me at the Rock Hill Valley. Dick was known Statewide in Masonic Circles being a member of Knight York Cross of Honor (KYCH), an invitational Masonic Body. One of my fondest memories of Dick was the day he went to Charleston with me in November of 2019. We left that morning and returned that night after the banquet because he said he would rather sleep in his own bed. I was to receive the "Red Hat" or (KCCH) in the Scottish Rite and I asked him to go with me. I needed someone to place the Hat on me during the ceremony. He would talk about this trip often during our travels and say, "he had hatted me." I could go on and on about my friend Dick, Union County has lost one of the good ones, a friend to all, a true Mason. All we can do now is try to be more like him. Roger Gregory
