Read More	Richard Baumgartner, 62, of Waukon, IA, died Saturday, September 19, 2020, from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident in De Soto, WI. Per Rick’s wishes, he was cremated and a private family burial will be held at a later date at Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Richard Baumgartner was born July 24, 1958, in Waukon, IA, the son of Robert and Joyce (Moen) Baumgartner. He attended school at the Little Red School (now located at the fairgrounds) as well as in Waukon and Monona, IA. During this time, he milked cows for area farmers. In 1976, Rick left school to join the U.S. Navy and served two years on the USS Bryce Canyon in Hawaii. After being discharged, he went to work for Riehm Construction and Farms. Rick then worked road construction for Carlson’s, which then became Knife River, and is now Bruening Rock Products. Most recently, he was working at Gencor in Marquette, IA. Rick loved fishing, especially at Lake Pepin. He also enjoyed riding his motorcycle, visiting with friends, and listening to Johnny Cash. His grandchildren were very important to him and he always enjoyed spending time with them. “Bark ‘em Up” was his motto for having a good time, which he lived up to daily with a smile on his face, a Busch Light in hand, and a contagious laugh. Rick lived a good life and was always willing to help others. He is survived by his daughter Shelly Baumgartner and her husband Vicente Quiroz of Waukon; his grandchildren Vicente Jr. and Petra; his siblings: Janice (Don Dehning) Cooper, Kay (Steve) Butler, Dennis (Mary) Baumgartner, Darrell (Alice) Baumgartner, Jeannie Miller, Carol Jeide, Neal Baumgartner, Lori (Joe Hare) Brainard, and Susie Rathbun; his girlfriend Olivia Bell and her children and grandchildren; and long time friend Kim Sylvester. Rick was preceded in death by his parents; one brother John Baumgartner; two sisters-in-law: Janet and Sandy; and a nephew Kevin Cooper. Martin-Grau Funeral Home in Waukon is assisting the family. Sheriff Dale McCullick Reports: On Saturday, September 19, 2020 at approximately 4:29 PM the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a Motorcycle accident with injuries on State Hwy 35 at the intersection of Old Hwy 35 in Freeman Township. Richard A. Baumgartner, age 62 of Waukon, IA, was traveling southbound on Old Hwy 35 operating a 2011 Harley Davidson Trike Motorcycle and was approaching the intersection with State Hwy 35. The Baumgartner Cycle failed to get stopped at the stop sign, struck the curb/left shoulder of the Hwy, rolled twice and ejected Baumgartner from the Cycle onto the southbound lane of State Hwy 35. The motorcycle came to rest on the westside shoulder of State Hwy 35. Life saving measures were attempted at the scene, but because of Mr. Baumgartner’s injuries he was pronounced dead without transport to the hospital. Baumgartner did not have a helmet on at the time of the accident. The accident remains under investigation. Assisting at the scene were the Desoto Fire Department, Desoto First Responders, Ferryville First Responders, Tri-State Ambulance, Gunderson Air, Wisconsin State Patrol, Bob’s Towing of Prairie Du Chien, WI, as well as a few citizens that stopped to assist with any first-aid or CPR. CRAWFORD COUNTY, Wisc. (KWWL) — A motorcycle accident took place at the intersection of Wisconsin Highway 35 on Saturday. 62-year-old Richard A. Baumgartner of Waukon was traveling down the highway on his 2011 Harley Davidson Trike Motorcycle when he was approaching the intersection. According to the Crawford County Sherriff's Office, Baumgartner failed to stop at the stop sign, struck the curb of the highway, rolled twice, and was ejected onto the Southbound Lane. Baumgartner was pronounced dead at the scene after live saving measures were attempted. He was not wearing a helmet. The accident remains under investigation.
