Description	:	Richard Bernard Fischer, son of Tony and Louise (Greitens) Fischer, was born on April 15, 1933, at Raeville, in Boone County. He passed away Feb. 25, 1999, at his home in Fairmont, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 10 days. Read More	Richard Bernard Fischer, son of Tony and Louise (Greitens) Fischer, was born on April 15, 1933, at Raeville, in Boone County. He passed away Feb. 25, 1999, at his home in Fairmont, at the age of 65 years, 10 months and 10 days. Dick was baptized and confirmed at the St. Bonaventure Church in Raeville, and attended St. Bonaventure School. The family purchased a farm near Primrose and moved there in March, 1951. Dick helped his dad farm and worked in Omaha during the winter months. Dick served in the U.S. Army from June 3, 1953 until April 26, 1955. He book his basic training in Ft. Sill, Okla. and served in Korea from October 1953 to April 1955. He received the National Defense Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, ROK Presidential Unit Commendation and Good Conduct Medal. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Lt. Forbes Post No. 21 in Fairmont and severed as Adjutant from 1977 to 1978. On Oct. 14, 1953, before going overseas, he was united in marriage to Darlene Joyce Spike at St. Mary's Church in Primrose. To this union three sons and three daughters were born, Jim, Douglas, Alan, Dan, Jeanette, Cindy and LInda. Dick farmed in the Cedar Rapids area and in March 1961, moved to Fairmont where he worked for Bill Jacobsen farming, corn shelling and trucking. When the trucking firm moved to York, they resided there five years before returning to Fairmont. He continued driving his truck and leased to Jacobsen Transfer, JTI Inc, and US Express. Dick's dream of driving a semi was more than fulfilled after 32 years of driving the open road. Dick was preceded in death by an infant son; father, Tony; brother, Gene; and brother-in-law, Richard Figgner. He is survived by his wife, Darlene; sons, Jim and wife Sheree of Grafton, Dan of Lincoln; daughters, Jeanette and husband Tom Detweiler of Omaha, Cindy and husband, Mark Bleach of Dorchester, Linda and husband, Larry Klipp of Fairmont; three granddaughters, Kylie Klipp, Natasha Kelch and Kelsey Detweiler; two grandsons, Jake and Kurt Bleach; mother, Louise Fischer of Spalding; brothers, Don and wife Nancy of Everett, Wash., and Lavern and wife, Pam of Norfolk; sisters, Mary Kay and husband, Willard Bowers of Papillion and Janice Figgner of Albion; nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Fairmont Community Church on Monday, March 1, 1999, with Rev. Betsy Galloway-Carew officiating. Nancy Jo Galusha accompanied the Fairmont Community Church Choir, who sang "Wherever" and "Blessed Assurance". Dick and Lorraine Bauer sang "I've Just Seen Jesus" and a taped selection of "I Did It My Way" was played as a recessional. Active casket bearers were Mike Fischer, Rick Figgner, Dennis Bowers, Jeff Hasase, David Spike, Jesse Spike and Bill Scarlett. Honorary bearers were Bill Jacobsen, Francis Jacobsen, Frank Moyers, Jim Moyers, Whitey Reed and Al Hingst. Interment was in the Fairmont Public Cemetery with the Fairmont American Legion Lt.
