Rowell Sr., 74, a longtime resident of Lake Shore Drive in Franklin, died peacefully Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Peabody Home in Franklin following a period of failing health. Rowell Sr., 74, a longtime resident of Lake Shore Drive in Franklin, died peacefully Friday, July 4, 2008 at the Peabody Home in Franklin following a period of failing health. He was born in Franklin April 21, 1934, son of Dexter and Verna (Magoon) Rowell. He had resided in Franklin for over 50 years. Mr. Rowell graduated from Penacook High School. During his younger years he owned and operated Rowell's Convenience Store in Rollinsford. For many years he owned the Rowell Furniture Factory Outlet Store, Rowell's Master TV and Antenna Service and was owner of Rowell's Rental Properties. He was a member and past president of the Webster Lake Association. Richard was a former member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks, Concord Boy's Club and Lakes Region Rental Association. He was an avid fisherman and hunter and enjoyed snowmobiling and skiing over the years. He enjoyed auto racing, and at one time headed his own racing team. During his stay at the Peabody Home in Franklin, Grampa Rowell shared many jovial moments with staff and experienced wonderful care, for which he was most grateful. Richard was predeceased by a daughter, Debra Paquette, in 1984 and a son, Richard C. Rowell Jr. in 2001. He was known locally as Daddy or Grampa Rowell and for being a "big man with a huge heart.: His family includes: His wife of 53 years, Doris E. (Sweatt) Rowell; daughter Donna L. Mahoney; daughter-in-law Deborah Rowell; grandchildren Jennifer Buck, Joseph Mahoney III, Mandie Hagan and Christine Roy; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Roger Rowell of San Francisco, Ca; and numerous nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday from 5-8pm at the William F. Smart Sr. Memorial Home, Franklin-Tilton Road in Tilton. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 1pm in the Memorial Home, with burial following in Park Cemetery in Tilton. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Richard C.
