Richard Charles Novacek, son of Joseph and Arlene (Pavlik) Novacek, was born August 21, 1944, at Plainview, Nebraska. He attended District 40 Country School and Verdigre Public High School, where he graduated from in 1962. On August 26, 1966, Richard was united in marriage to Dolores Fay Randa at Niobrara, Nebraska. They had two children, Charles Eugene and Michael Lee. Richard grew up 5½ miles northwest of Verdigre before moving into Verdigre. During his early years, he worked for area farmers doing farm work and haying. He also worked for Verdigre Motors/Sheckler Chevrolet. He was a mechanic at Verdigre Implement for nearly 30 years – up until it closed in December 1995. Richard then worked for Glen’s repair until his retirement. Even after retirement Richard continued his mechanic work through restoring old 2-cylinder John Deere tractors and he also provided his mechanic knowledge to several other mechanics and farmers in the area. When he didn’t have his mechanic tools in his hands, he was working in his garden. Richard took his gardening pretty seriously and had a lot of pride in the produce he raised. He had a great love for his family and friends, especially his two grandchildren. In his spare time, he enjoyed going downtown for coffee and running set lines for catfish with his good friends Otto and Leo. Richard was a member of the Verdigre Volunteer Fire Department. Richard is survived by his wife, Dolores of Verdigre, Nebraska; sons, Charles (Michele) Novacek of Sioux Falls, South Dakota and Michael (Jamie) Novacek of Verdigre; grandchildren, Keegan Charles of Sioux Falls and Reagan Leigh of Verdigre; sister, Cheryl Robinette of Page, Nebraska; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Crosley and Margaret Freiburghouse; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Arlene Novacek; father-in-law, Richard Randa; mother-in-law, Mildred Randa; and brothers-in-law, Ron Robinette and Larry Crosley.
