Richard married Mrs Anna Memhardt on August 17, 1921. Sept 24, 1952 - Carroll Daily Times - Funeral services will be Friday afternoon for R.C.P. Berger, 69, well-known Carroll resident, who died of a heart attack Tuesday morning at St. Anthony Hospital. He had been ill since suffering his first attack July 11. Rites at 1:45 p.m. at the Huffman Funeral home will be followed by services at 2 o'clock at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran church. The Rev. Paul Bergmann will officiate. Burial will be in the Carroll cemetery. The body is remaining at the funeral home until the time of the rites. Mr. Berger, retired carpenter and cabinet maker, had spent most of his life in Carroll county. He had been a Carroll resident for 34 years. A son of Gustave and Johanna Berger, he was born Feb. 19, 1883, at Arcadia. When he and his brothers were small boys, their parents died. They were reared at the Iowa Soldiers Orphans Home in Davenport. Mr. Berger remained at the home until he was 14 years old. He then came to Arcadia to live with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Julius Pruter. Later he went into the lumber business at Arcadia, owning the lumber until 1918. Selling out at that time he came to Carroll to make his home. As a cabinet maker, he took an especial interest in his work with walnut wood. He had made many pieces of furniture. Mr. Burger was married in 1904 to Dora Paulson of Arcadia, who died in May 1920. He had one daughter Alyce, who is now a registered nurse, living in San Francisco, CA. On August 17, 1921 Mr. Berger was married to Mrs. Anna Memhardt, of Carroll who survives. Also surviving are his daughter, Alyce of San Francisco; one brother, Paul Berger, Chicago; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Ralph Baumhover, Carroll; three grandchildren: Mrs. Jerry Burke (Joanne Baumhover), Lubbock, Tex.; Janet Baumhover and Ralph Baumhover Jr., Carroll, and two great grandchildren, Cheryl and Michael Burke, Lubbock, TX. A brother, Gus, died in 1920. A member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran church here. Mr. Berger had served as its financial secretary.
