Description	:	Richard D. "Dick" Engels of Watertown, died Jan 16, 2011, in a hospital at Watertown, Codington Co, SD. Funeral services will be Thursday at 10:30 a.m. in the Cornerstone United Methodist Church at Watertown with the Rev. Roger Spahr officiating. Music will be provided by organist Lynn Osthus with his granddaughter, Journey Green as a soloist. Burial will be in the Mount Hope Cemetery at Watertown. Military graveside honors will be provided by Codington County Post 17 of the American Legion of Watertown and the Military Funeral Honors Team of the SD Army National Guard. He was born Oct 31, 1927, on a farm near Bemis to Detert and Alberta (Lamfers) Engels. He was baptized and confirmed in the Bemis Presbyterian Church. He attended Hillcrest District 62 school and farmed with his mother and brother. He entered the U.S. Army Feb. 21, 1951, serving during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged Feb. 20, 1953. Nov. 7, 1953, he married Violet Jutting in Gary. He worked with his brother hauling gravel. They moved to Watertown where he worked for Petroleum Carriers and then transferred to Wolsey in 1965. They returned to Watertown in 1976 and he worked for Cenex until he retired in 1992. He was a member of the Cornerstone United Methodist Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, woodworking, doing yard work, helping his two daughters on their farms and spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife, Violet of Watertown; two daughters, Patricia (Roger) Schuelke of Marietta, Minn., and Michelle (Brian) Green of Wilmot; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
