Richard Dale Hilligas was born March 31, 1931, in Newton, Iowa, the son of Charles C. Hilligas and Helen Irene Myers Hilligas. He received his education in Newton and Guernsey schools. Mr. Hilligas served with the US Army during the Korean War. Before entering the army he was a farm hand and drove a school bus for Guernsey. He was last employed at Donaldson's as a painter. Prior to that he was a semi-truck driver, worked for the City of Brooklyn and Amana Refrigeration. He married Patricia Ann Lindner on September 10, 1960, at the Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn. They were the parents of one son Leroy. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and the American Legion of Brooklyn. Richard enjoyed fishing, traveling, sprint car races, going to the State Fair and coffee with his buddies. His parents, two brothers, Charles and William; and a sister, Gloria, preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Patricia, of Brooklyn; a son Leroy Hilligas of Brooklyn; a brother Donald Hilligas of Brooklyn; and a sister, Sandra Stratton of Ladora, Iowa.
