Description	:	Richard Balleweg Dies Suddenly A gloom was cast over the entire community Sunday, when the news spread that Richard Balleweg had dropped dead while on his way to church in the midst of the severe storm. He was found lying between the Wm. Burt and Wm. Hufsmith residences and had not been dead over five minutes, when neighbors picked him up and took him to the Wm. Hufsmith residence. Read More	Richard Balleweg Dies Suddenly A gloom was cast over the entire community Sunday, when the news spread that Richard Balleweg had dropped dead while on his way to church in the midst of the severe storm. He was found lying between the Wm. Burt and Wm. Hufsmith residences and had not been dead over five minutes, when neighbors picked him up and took him to the Wm. Hufsmith residence. A physician was called and upon examination showing that death was due to heart trouble. It is supposed he became exhausted while facing the wind. He was later removed to the Steven Mattern home. Richard Balleweg was born in Germany on the 2nd day of October 1845 and died at the age of 72 years. He came to America at the age of 21 years and worked in Illinois for a number of years. He then took up a homestead four miles north of Winnetoon. Shortly after this he married to Miss Mary Richling and to this union were born six children. After living on their place for a number of years, they moved on his wife's homestead near Walnut, where he has since resided until his death. His wife died on the 11th day of June, 1896. All the children being small at the time of her death. For the past four or five years, Mr. Balleweg has not been actively engaged in farm work. He is survived by his six children, Mrs. A.T. Steffen, Creighton; L.R. Balleweg, Pueblo, Colo.; Clara Balleweg, Walnut; Mrs. W.F. Bady, Trinidad, Colo.; Sister M. Datana, Milwaukee, Wis. and John Balleweg of Walnut. Mr. Balleweg was a man whom all honored and respected and he always had a kind and cheerful work for all. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus lodge, who were present at the ceremonies. Funeral services were held Wednesday from the Catholic church by Rev. Father Windolph and attended by a large company of friends, who followed the body to its last resting place in the Catholic cemetery. ...The Creighton News 8 Feb 1917
