Read More	STEPHENSON, RICHARD DICK--Richard (Dick) Stephenson, for the past 11 years a member of The Nebraska Signal force, passed away unexpectedly early Tuesday morning, May 6, 1958, at the York General hospital. He became ill about midnight and was taken to the hospital, where he passed away a few hours later. He had several previous attacks of illness and was in the hospital several days in March, later spending ten days recuperating at Hot Springs, Ark. Richard, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Lee Stephenson, was born on the farm in Geneva township July 9, 1899. He was 58 years 9 months, and 27 days old at the time of his death. After the death of his father, Richard made his home a number of years with his uncle, Charles Weston, in Geneva township. Richard attended the Geneva town school through the grades. In his youth he learned the trade of linotype, operator and later operated a job printing shop at Aurora, Mo. Later he went to Oroville, Cal., where he worked as a linotype operator for about 20 years. He returned to Geneva to assist in the care of his mother when she was injured in an accident and shortly afterwards joined The Signal staff. His mother passed away in 1951. Dick was an expert operator, always willing to assume any part of the wide variety of work in a weekly newspaper office. He often made helpful suggestions on office matters. He will be greatly missed by his co-workers. He had no immediate family survivors. Mrs. Will Watmore and Mrs. Bert Lynn of Geneva are second cousins, and he had other cousins in Illinois, Utah and California. Funeral services were held at the Kritner-Farmer funeral home in Geneva at 10 a. m. Thursday, May 8. Rev. A. B. Sears officiated. Ralph Reemts sang “The Old Rugged Cross” and “Beyond the Sunset,” Mrs. Willard Foster being accompanist. Pallbearers were members of The Signal staff, Jerry Pickerell, Francis Baker, Dean Reinsch, Howard Hamilton, John Edgecombe and Tyler Edgecombe. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery.
