Read More	Richard Edward Hansen Yakima Herald-Republic (WA) - Wednesday, April 30, 2008 Merritt Funeral Home YAKIMA - Richard Edward Hansen, 63, of Yakima, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2008, in the Emergency Room of Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital. Richard was born February 19, 1945, in Wapato, to Edward Richard and Marcella Ann (Petty) Hansen. He grew up on a family farm in White Swan where he gained a love for country living. A true horseman since childhood, he often spoke fondly of the many hours he spent riding in the fields, or tending to them with the help of the family's Shire Horses. After graduating from high school, Richard continued his education at Perry Technical Institute, where he received his certification in auto mechanics. He then served his country for two years in the U.S. Marine Corps and was able to travel throughout the United States and to visit the Panama Canal, the Viegas Islands in the Caribbean, and the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico. At family gatherings and social events he was always the observer. He would just sit quietly in the midst of the group watching everyone with a twinkle in his eye, just waiting for the perfect time to slip in a mischievous comment. Always hoping to get a rise from someone, he would chuckle and go back to observing until the next moment popped up. Happiest in blue jeans and flannel shirts, it took his daughter's wedding to get him into a suit, which he proudly wore as he walked Sarah down the aisle on her special day this last December. Richard met his beloved wife of 27 years, Denise in Yakima where they raised their two loving children, Sarah and Mathew. To these children he passed on his love for horses and the outdoors. Many memories where made hunting up the back of Darling Mountain, fishing at Clear Lake (or Trout Meadows when the fish were scarce!) and teaching his family how not to get lost in the woods, and in life. Those who knew him in his later years knew him as a mechanic of all trades. Family and friends often called upon him to fix everything from household appliances to "big rigs". His son had the great opportunity of learning the mechanic trade straight from the best source: his father. Many memories were made for the two of them while tinkering on the family's vehicles late at night. The little life lessons and the many loved memories he gave to those who were close to him will never be forgotten. His family and those who were close to him knew of his salvation, and they have found comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord. Richard is survived by his wife Denise Hansen of Yakima; his daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Jason Wright of Richland; his son, Mathew Hansen of Yakima, currently serving with the U.S. Army; a granddaughter, Sarina Hansen of Yakima; his mother, Marcella Hansen of White Swan; a sister, Joyce Jack of B.C. Canada; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. Richard was preceded in death by his father, Edward Richard Hansen. Viewing will be from noon until 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2008, at Merritt Funeral Home in Wapato. Graveside services with full military honors will be at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2008, at the Reservation Community Memorial Park, west of Wapato. Those attending should meet at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Association in memory of Richard, in care of Merritt Funeral Home.
