Description	:	Dad grew up and attended school in the small rural town of Waldo Kansas in Russell County and enlisted in the Navy in 1941, where he served on PT boats in the Mediterranean from 1941-1945, when the war ended. At one point he served under the command of John F. Kennedy. He married my mother, Donna Ruth Bender on July 3rd, 1956 and they lived in Russell Kansas above a little corner grocery store on Front Street. Read More	Dad grew up and attended school in the small rural town of Waldo Kansas in Russell County and enlisted in the Navy in 1941, where he served on PT boats in the Mediterranean from 1941-1945, when the war ended. At one point he served under the command of John F. Kennedy. He married my mother, Donna Ruth Bender on July 3rd, 1956 and they lived in Russell Kansas above a little corner grocery store on Front Street. I was born November 1, 1957 and my sister, Susan Diane, who died at birth, was born August 20th, 1962. They continued to live in Russell until the end of 1965 or early 1966, when they moved to Corona California. In 1968 they moved to Salina Kansas, where dad worked at Beach (Boeing) aircraft until he retired in 1991. We found out dad had cancer in December of 1992 and he passed away January 25, 1993. To those of you who knew my dad, he was one of the nicest men you would ever had the pleasure of knowing. He was soft spoken, quite, never said a harsh word about anyone. He had a fun sense humor. He definately was handsome. He loved sports (football, baseball and basketball) and reading, especially westerns (Lewis L'amour and Zane Grey were his favorites). He also loved Western movies and War movies. Definately his favorite food was a good steak, just about rare, and a good supply of bread and butter. Dad loved to have a good cold beer, Budweiser, and a good glass of Scotch. I had bought him a bottle of Scotch on his birthday, before we found out he had cancer, and the one thing he commented on when he was sick and dying was: "Damn, I never got to drink that Scotch". That was dad. I sure miss him. He will forever be in my heart.
