Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk is in charge of local arrangements. Richard Ervin Haase, age 87, died peacefully on 15 July 2015, at Golden Living Center in Randolph, Wisconsin. Funeral services for Richard will be on Monday, 20 July 2015, at 11:00 a.m. at Freidens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Randolph, with Rev. Daniel Schumann officiating. Relatives and friends may call on the family from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. A luncheon will follow the service in the church fellowship hall. Richard was born on 21 January 1928, the son of Ervin and Hattie (Root) Haase. Richard attended Kindergarten at Grant School in Norfolk, Nebraska. Then he completed grades 1-4 in Sioux City, Iowa before returning to Grant for grades 5-8. He attended Norfolk Senior High School and graduated in 1946. In September of that year he joined the Air Force and completed his basic training in San Antonio, Texas. In January 1947, he deployed out of New York City for Okinawa, where he spent the next 18 months working as a radio operator. In November of 1948, he came home and went to Tacoma, Washington to finish his enlistment. He was honorably discharged in August 1949. Richard attended one year of college at Hastings, Nebraska, where he studied animal husbandry. In 1950 he returned to Norfolk to help run the family farm. On 20 January 1952, he was united in marriage to Ruby Ellenberger. Richard moved his family to California in September of 1957. The next six years he worked at several industries. Richard and Ruby moved their family back to Norfolk in December of 1963, where he drove truck and did some farming. In 1987, they moved to Beaver Dam where he worked for Evco until he retired in 2001. Richard cherished the times spent with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed singing in the church choir, attending choir concerts, golfing, and taking care of Ruby when her health failed. Richard was a member of Freidens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Randolph, a past member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Norfolk, and a past charter member of Shepherd of Peace Lutheran Church in Norfolk. Richard will be sadly missed by his children; his grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; one brother; one niece; one nephew; and many other relatives and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Ruby. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed in Richard's name to Luther Preparatory School, Watertown, Wisconsin or Freidens Evangelical Lutheran Church in Randolph, Wisconsin.
