Read More	RICHARD E. CLEMENTS - Sunday - September 18, 2005 Naches - Richard E. Clements, 61, of Naches, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, September 15, 2005, after a courageous fight with refractory celiac disease. Dick was born September 30, 1943, to Cecil and Helen Clements and grew up in Manson, Washington. It was here on the shores of Lake Chelan where he developed many of his life-long passions and interests. The lake offered an ideal environment to perfect water-skiing and fishing skills with family and friends. Being the oldest of four children, Dick learned the role of responsibility as "Big Brother". Throughout high school, he was very active in sports and student leadership. In his early years, Dick was introduced to the fruit industry through working in the family apple orchard. After high school, he graduated from Washington State University. It was at WSU where he met Marietta Rowe, the love of his life. They were married in Naches, June 18, 1966. After proudly serving in the U.S. Army, he became president and general manager of Rowe Farms, a diversified fruit growing and packing operation near Naches. He found joy and happiness spending time with his wife and two children in the beauty of the Naches Valley. He was known for serving his family and also the community as a whole with purpose, conviction and character. Thousands of hours were devoted to community service over the past three decades. He felt very fortunate to be involved with many fruit industry organizations and truly enjoyed the personal interaction with fellow committee members. In 2003, Dick was honored to receive the Washington State Horticultural Association's Silver Pear Award given in recognition of perpetual counsel and leadership as a member of marketing promotion advisory boards. These included Washington State Fruit Commission, Northwest Horticultural Council, Pear Bureau Northwest, Hort Association Grade and Pack Committee and Washington Cherry Marketing Committee. He was affiliated with First Presbyterian Church of Yakima, Naches Lions Club, Yakima Country Club and Sigma Nu Fraternity at WSU. He covered many yards with the Washington Official's Association as a high school football official for 29 years. In honor of excellence, Dick was presented with a WIAA Meritorious Service Award. In addition, Dick has been delighted to serve on the board of directors of Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital since 1997. Those who knew him would agree, Dick was a people person. Dick looked at life as a world filled with endless opportunities. He was always eager to make new friends and exchange stories of personal experiences with great enthusiasm. His granddaughter exclaims, "My Grandpa was EXTRA nice... I would say 100% NICE." He is survived by his wife, Marietta Clements; and their children, Kristy Clark and son-in-law Tim Clark of Seattle, Mark Clements and daughter-in-law Kim Clements of Tieton; his mother, Helen Clements of Manson; sisters, Kaye Forsberg of Sammamish and Susan Bennett of Manson; and brother, Jim Clements of Vancouver. Grandchildren are Natalie and Powell Clark of Seattle. To the staff of Yakima Valley Memorial Hospital and Hospice Home Care, the family offers immense gratitude for medical expertise, personal care and counseling provided by so many.
