Sheer (July 23, 1954 - January 27, 2013) Richard E. Sheer, age 58, of Coon Rapids passed away on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at his home in Coon Rapids. Funeral services are Saturday, February 2, 2013, at 11 AM at Ascension Lutheran Church in Coon Rapids, where friends may call on Saturday from 10 AM until service time. Interment will be in the Union Township Cemetery east of Coon Rapids.Officiating the service will be Reverend Bill Bernau and Reverend Lou Hoger. Carolyn Flook will be organist. Casket Bearers are Mike Schroeder, Paul Davis, Matt Rogers, Jason Williquett, Mike Ochsner and Brandon Smith. Honorary Casket Bearers are Kenyon Trimble, Kent Penfold, Elijah Ochsner, Caleb Ochsner, David Sheer, Rachel Francis, Justin Sheer, Joshua Sheer, Elisha Clark and Ryan Sheer. The Johnson and Woodhouse Funeral Home in Coon Rapids is in charge of arrangements. Richard Eugene Sheer, son of Kenneth Edwin and Phyllis (Nelson) Sheer, was born July 23, 1954, at Audubon, Iowa. He grew up on farms west of Audubon, east of Exira and near Guthrie Center before his family settled at Coon Rapids in 1970. He attended school at Coon Rapids High School. Following his schooling, Richard worked at Garst. In September of 1972, Richard enlisted with the U.S. Army and served in an infantry unit near Frankfort, Germany. In September of 1975, he received his honorable discharge, having attained the rank of Specialist-4. On April 7, 1978, Richard was united in marriage with Deb Bonney in Carroll. Three children were born to this union. The family made their home in Coon Rapids. Richard worked for Rotert Construction, and American Can in Des Moines before doing factory work in Jefferson for 25 years. Richard was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, playing pool, collecting antiques and tinkering. He was a selfless person who did not like to be fussed over. Richard tried to make light of every situation and cherished spending time with his family and friends. On Sunday, January 27, 2013, Richard passed away at his home in Coon Rapids, following a lengthy illness. He was fifty-eight years of age. Richard is survived by: two daughters Misty Ochsner and husband Mike of Carroll and Amanda Smouse and fiance Jason Williquett of Carroll; a son Marcus Sheer of Coon Rapids; grandsons Elijah and Caleb Ochsner; his mother Phyllis Sheer of Coon Rapids; brothers: John Sheer and wife Diana of Bayard; Wayne Sheer of Davenport and Wendell Sheer and wife Janet of Kempner, Texas; Aunts and Uncles: Cliff and Peggy Nelson of Grimes; Darlene McConnell of Atlantic and Della and Vernon Holdsworth of Harlan. He was preceded in death by: his father Kenneth Edwin Sheer, a brother Merlin Sheer, a niece Heather Sheer, and his grandparents: Roscoe and Amanda Sheer, Ina Ernest and Theodore Nelson.
