Description	:	Married at Canton, April 18, 1883, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gayken settled on a homestead farm three miles southeast of Lennox. The pioneer couple remained on their farm until 1910 when they took up their residence in Lennox. Here they spent their declining years, Mr. Gayken passing away January 18, 1923, and Mrs. Gayken succumbing July 26, 1936. Here they spent their declining years, Mr. Gayken passing away January 18, 1923, and Mrs. Gayken succumbing July 26, 1936. Mr. Gayken was born in Germany, immigrating to the United States with his parents when he was only nine years old. Mrs. Gayken, nee Anna DeVries —was born in Germany, November 29, 1864. When she was three weeks of age her parents came to the United States and Lincoln County, Dakota Territory, where she later married. Ten children were born to this union, three of whom passed away in infancy. Seven children survived her, namely: Hayo, George, Ben, and Joe Gayken; Mrs. Lena Cramer, Mrs. Anna James, and Mrs. Hemme Abbas. Also 26 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gayken was a member of the Lennox Lutheran church for 23 years.
