Description	:	Rich G. Spurling, age 87 years, of Fremont, NE, died Thursday, June 30, 2011 at Nye Legacy Health and Rehab Center, Fremont. He was born March 19, 1924 in Scribner, NE to Sydney and Ella (Schoeneck) Spurling. He grew up in Scribner, NE and graduated from Scribner High School in 1941. He attended Wayne State College for one year. He moved to Fremont and began working at Hormel's in 1947, retiring in 1984 as a shipping manager. He was born March 19, 1924 in Scribner, NE to Sydney and Ella (Schoeneck) Spurling. He grew up in Scribner, NE and graduated from Scribner High School in 1941. He attended Wayne State College for one year. He moved to Fremont and began working at Hormel's in 1947, retiring in 1984 as a shipping manager. Rich married Genevieve "Gennie" Kaarstad January 10, 1943 in Fremont. She died September 27, 1998. He was a member of the Fremont Golf Club, and Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fremont. Rich had a real love for music. He was the drummer for Dennis Wesely's Band for many years and played Dixieland music in his own band, Rich's Big 6. Survivors include: son – Terry and wife Kim Spurling of North Platte, NE; daughter Jackie Hemminger and special friend Don Stevens of Fremont, NE; sister-in-law – Bridget Kaarstad of Goodyear, AZ; 4 grandchildren; and 6 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: parents; his wife, Gennie; brother – Robert Spurling; and sister – Merna Sievers. Funeral Service will be 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, July 6, 2011 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. James Jost, Odyssey Hospice Chaplain, will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2011 from 3-8 P.M. with family receiving friends 6-8 P.M. at Moser Memorial Chapel. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont, 10:30 A.M., Friday, July 8, 2011. Memorials may be directed to Dodge County Humane Society, or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
