Description	:	Richard Gerald Kamler was born to Frank Henry Kamler and Lillian Eich Kamler on November 18, 1921, at Shickley. He passed away July 26, 1993, at his home in Geneva, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 8 days. He was the only child in the family. Jerry lived on a farm near Shickley. Air Force during World War... Read More	Richard Gerald Kamler was born to Frank Henry Kamler and Lillian Eich Kamler on November 18, 1921, at Shickley. He passed away July 26, 1993, at his home in Geneva, at the age of 71 years, 8 months and 8 days. He was the only child in the family. Jerry lived on a farm near Shickley. He attended Elementary School District No. 92 and graduated from Geneva high school in 1939. After graduation at the age of 17, he played professional baseball until he was drafted by the . S. Air Force during World War II. While serving his country, he played baseball and basketball for the service teams. He met his wife, Leola Berger while stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Ks. When he left the service he played professional baseball with the Cardinal Chain until a chronic back condition made it impossible to continue. He returned to Geneva in 1948 to join his father in the Allis-Chalmers Implement business. He later added a Pontiac Dealership to the business and farmed part-time before retiring in 1973. Jerry was married to Leola Mae Berger of Leavenworth, Ks., on January 3, 1945 and to the five children were born. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a Legionnaire when he was still in business. He served as a volunteer fireman and a city councilman. He was a passionate sportsman. At different stages of his life, he possessed an eagerness to excel in baseball, basketball, bowling, hunting, fishing, and golf. After having been a manager-player on the Geneva semi-professional baseball team, he co-coached the Junior Legion Team. He continued to coach his children and grandchildren unofficially from the stands. Jerry was an avid investor. He enjoyed playing the stock market and initiating new business ventures. His biggest investment was his children and their families. He was a tough taskmaster with a soft center. He often generously came to his children's rescue and provided for their needs. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillian Kamler of Geneva. He is survived by his wife, Lee; his children, Sandra (Ken) Lefever of Geneva, Brian (Diane) Kamler of Lincoln, Jeri Leigh (Bob) Wentz of Ashland, Michele and (Ron) Votipka of Overland Park, Ks., Julie (Doug) Talley of Crystal Lake, Ill., and by 15 grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted from St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Geneva on Thursday, July 29, with Father William Grant officiating. Carole Prater accompanied Kelly Eich and the St. Joseph's Choir who sang, "Here I Am Lord," "I Heard the Lord Call My Name," "I am the Bread of Life," and "The Battle Hymn of the Republic." Casket Bearers were Robert J. Cellar, George I. Cruse, Stanley H. Foster, Doyle Lade, J. R. Stewart, and Dick Wagner. Interment was in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal July 1993
